Car rides with your pet
If your pet is anything like Ruby, they love a good car ride! Even if its 100 degrees, she still has her head out that window, panting and slobbering with happiness. Here’s a big no no- NEVER leave your pet in the car if you have to run an errand. Leaving the window cracked on a 108 degree weather day like we are having here in Modesto, isn’t going to help. If you have a destination that doesn’t involve your pet (as in, you can’t take your pet inside be it a restaurant etc), then don’t involve your pet! Pets can get heat exhaustion very easily, they can’t sweat and are covered in fur! So next time when your thinking about taking your pet, make sure that leaving them in the car isn’t part of the plan. Make sure you have water and a portable bowl if you do take them, so they remain hydrated. Happy Summer!

If you plan on going hiking with your pet, or camping!
Hey all. I don’t know about you, but I love it when the weather heats up and I can go out and hike, camp, go to the lake or head to my family’s cabin. Of course, I HAVE to take my dog Ruby! Here are some important tips if you plan on doing the same with your pet. First, make sure that they are current on ALL of their shots! Also as important, is that they have flea contol that can fight off ticks as well as fleas, and Frontline is a great product that does just that. Make sure you have their papers that show they are licensed and have their rabies tag. Keep water on you at all times, and a portable water bowl for your pet. Imagine how thirsty they are! Lastly, take bags to pick up after your pet! That is a must. Have fun enjoying the weather with your dog!!
Lets go swimming!!
Ok, so I know I am a broken record with the whole exercise with your pet thing. I assure you, its for good reason!! With as hot as it is lately, swimming with your pet is a great option to burn calories, and tire them out for the day. Of course, you can get involved as well and play a lively game of catch from one end to the next-you’ll be huffing and puffing before you know it! I always have fun throwing Baxter’s tennis ball into the deep end-he’ll burn so many calories to get that ball!! Talk about a workout! And, if you are enjoying swimming in a lake with your pet, its always important to keep an eye on them to make sure they aren’t getting too tired, or short of breath. Also to keep it safe, you can have your pet wear a doggie lifevest, or whats called Ruff Wear K-9 float coat. And, of course, make sure your pet is vaccinated before taking them to an area like a lake with a lot of pet traffic. This way, you ensure that your pet is getting a great workout, safely! Enjoy the heat while we have it, and make sure your pet does too!
Its heating up!
Hey everybody! Its approaching June, and obviously we are in for some heat! Because of this, I strongly recommend that if you walk your pet, that you do it either in the cool morning hours, or in the evening when it cools off. This will keep both your pet and you safe from heat stroke, which is hard to avoid in the heat. Also, always bring water for both of you. You can buy a travel dog water bowl so your pet can have water wherever you are. I have seen these for less than five dollars at a few stores, one being Big Lots. These simple tips will keep you and your pet happy, safe and healthy this summer! Also, follow us on twitter at www.twitter/doggersize.
